Greywater / Water Harvesting Rebate Program
Metro Water District offers a $50 rebate when a resident installs a graywater or water harvesting system. Both systems capture water that is usually discarded so that it can be used for outdoor watering, thus reducing your regular water usage.
Graywater is the re-use of water from the laundry, shower, or bathroom sink. Diverting that water from going down the drain and using it on your outdoor plants will result in lower water use at your house, every month, which means savings on your bill.
Water harvesting means capturing rainwater and putting it to use instead or letting it run down driveways, walks and patios.
Some homeowners combine the two by diverting graywater into a rain barrel that collects harvested water beside the house.
Metro's Board of Directors established this new rebate to compliment the District's existing toilet rebate program. The $50 rebate is available as long as the approved fiscal-year fund for the program exists. The $50 rebate is available to residents who install a graywater or water harvesting system after September 1, 2002.
The Water Conservation
Alliance of Southern Arizona (Water CASA) recently published a booklet on graywater
harvesting. Copies of this booklet and one on water harvesting are available
at the District office.
